It was the third successive match in which they had been required to do so. The match between the two sides at Watford in June had been drawn. For the winners, Watson’s 89 contained 7 fours, Worman’s 72 included 9 fours and Hoare’s 69 included 2 fours. In the Norfolk first innings, Hoare and Watson added 101 runs for the fourth wicket, Watson and Worman put on 65 for the seventh wicket and Worman and Gibson added 59 runs for the ninth. For Hertfordshire, Golding’s 64 included 10 fours. When he had scored 24 in the Hertfordshire first innings, Golding reached the career milestone of three thousand runs in championship matches.
