The match between the two sides at Oxford the previous week had been drawn. On the first day showers caused several interruptions to play. For the winners, A Rogers took 12 wickets in the match for 86 runs, including 7 for 38 in the Suffolk second innings. Bassett scored 78, J F Marsh 52 and J W Marsh 52. In the Suffolk first innings, Raynor and Wilson added 55 runs for the seventh wicket. Heavy overnight rain made the pitch difficult for batting on the second day. The 38 extras conceded in the Oxfordshire innings were the highest in an innings during the season. [Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; fall of wickets; in Oxfordshire innings boundaries in Bassett’s 78, J F Marsh’s 52 and J W Marsh’s 52; in Suffolk first innings runs conceded bowling 1 short; time completed.] Sources: East Anglian Daily Times 8,9 August; Jackson’s Oxford Journal 12 August; Oxford Chronicle 11 August; Oxford Times 12 August; Sporting Life 9 August; The Sportsman 8 August.
