Shortly after lunch on the second day play was halted by a shower when Buckinghamshire had lost five wickets in their second innings. A resumption was not made until after 5.00 pm. For the victors, Wharmby took 13 wickets in the match for 113 runs, including 7 wickets for 66 runs in the Buckinghamshire second innings. Orr scored 70 and Wharmby 59 not out. In the Bedfordshire first innings, they added 78 runs for the seventh wicket. For Buckinghamshire, Vickerstaff took 7 wickets for 86 runs in the visitor s’ first innings. Wright top -scored with 40. Wharmby bowled 68 overs in the match, the second highest number during the season. The 19 maidens he bowled in the second innings were the second most bowled in an innings during the season, and the 30 maidens he bowled in the match were the most bowled during the season. When he had scored 41 in the Bedfordshire first innings, Orr reached the career milestone of two thousand runs in championship matches. When he dismissed Edmunds in the Buckinghamshire second innings, Wharmby held his fiftieth catch in championship matches.
