On the second day, rain delayed the start until 2.40 pm and prevented play between 3.45 and 5.30 pm. For the winners, Elliot top-scored with 48 not out. For B edfordshire, Hodgkins’s 86 contained 6 fours and Pollitt’s 53 also included 6 fours. A curious incident arose at the end, the visiting scorer having signalled that Durham had won, and the players left the field, it was found that the Durham second innings total was 151 not 155. However, on going through the bowling analysis it was discovered that they had not credited Elliot with a four. When he had scored 2 in the Bedfordshire first innings, Pollitt reached the career milestone of two thousand runs in championship matches.
