It was the sixth one wicket victory since the start of the competition in 1895. Requiring in their second innings 123 runs to win in three hours, the ninth Devon wicket fell at 117, but Harrison and Scott together scored the 6 runs needed for victory, the winning runs being 3 byes. For the winners, Light took 11 wickets in the match for 111 runs. There were 11 fours in Davies’s 67. In the Devon first innings, Harrison and Davies added 93 runs for the seventh wicket. For the losers, Gibson’s 58 contained 9 fours and Riches’s 56 included just 1 fo ur. Whittington injured his hand when attempting to catch Cruwys in the Devon first innings and had to retire from the field. He batted late in the Glamorgan second innings. E A Fulcher originally took his place as substitute fielder, and he was subsequently replaced by a fielder named Anderson from a local club. When he had scored 4 in the Devon first innings, Light reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches. When he stumped Gibson in the Glamorgan first innings, Davies made his fiftieth dismissal in championship matches.
