It was the first time that Surrey had played a ‘home’ match away from The Oval. Rain prevented play after 12.20 pm on the second day. For the home team, there were 13 f ours in Garrett’s 78 and 11 fours in Davis’s 64. In the Surrey first innings, Garrett and Rushby put on 98 runs for the eighth wicket in under an hour. It was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season. In the Yorkshire 2 nd XI innings, Gooder took 7 wickets for 67 runs.
