It was the first time that Surrey had played a ‘home’ match away from The Oval. Rain prevented play after 12.20 pm on the second day. For the home team, there were 13 f ours in Garrett’s 78 and 11 fours in Davis’s 64. In the Surrey first innings, Garrett and Rushby put on 98 runs for the eighth wicket in under an hour.
