Notes: Surrey 2 nd XI had another disappointing season not winning a match and ending up in fourteenth place equal with Dorset and Northumberland. It was a marginal improvement on 1904 when the team were seventeenth. William Garrett succeeded William Graburn as captain, but was to hold the position for just one year. Staffordshire replaced Northamptonshire in their fixture list. The leading batsman was Garnett Goatly, for the second year running, with 377 runs at 29.00, and Len Gooder with 247 at 22.45. The leading bowlers were James Meads with 20 wickets at 14.75 and Len Gooder with 29 at 16.82. Of those playing in their final season, Herbert Strudwick was to achieve fame playing for Surrey and England. The career milestone of one thousand runs was reached in the season by two players – Garnett Goatly and Len Gooder. It was mistakenly stated in the 1904 book that E W Bale was playing his final season for Surrey in the competition in that year, whereas he was to play a further five matches in 1905.
