Notes: To the surprise of many, Norfolk won the Championship after finishing sixteenth in 1904, having returned in that year to the competition after a two-year absence. The first match played was drawn and the second lost, but this opening was followed by six consecutive victories. Norfolk had needed to win the final match against Cambridgeshire at Norwich to take the title. Just one match had been won the previous season. Oxfordshire replaced Buckinghamshire on the fixture list. George Raikes succeeded Legh Barratt as captain and was widely praised for his efforts. The leading batsmen were Arthur Watson with 319 runs at 53.16, George Raikes 253 runs at 36.14 and Legh Barratt 315 runs at 35.00. James Worman with 42 wickets at 11.11 and Billy Smith with 31 at 15.41 were the leading bowlers. Off the field, A M Jee became Joint Hon Secretary with E G Buxton. The career milestone reached during the season was one thousand runs by Philip Fryer. It was mistakenly stated in the 1904 book that A L Kennaway played his last season for Norfolk in that year, whereas he was to play one further match for the county in 1905 as a second-day replacement for Billy Smith in the match versus Suffolk at Norwich in July.
