The wickets margin of victory was the equal second closest of the season. The game between the two sides at Bedford earlier in the month had been drawn. On the first day rain delayed the start until after lunch. Needing 69 runs to win in their second innings, Buckinghamshire lost 8 wickets for 53 runs, before an unbroken partnership of 19 runs between Janes and Vaughan secured the victory. For the winners, Wright and Page bowled unchanged in both innings. Wright took 11 wickets for 40 runs and Page 8 for 90. T A Brown took 14 wickets in the match for 72 runs for the losers, including all 8 second innings wickets that fell in the home team’s second innings for 27 runs. It was statistically the best match bowling performance of the season. De Paravicini dislocated a finger while keeping wicket in the Bedfordshire second innings and Hobbs took over the gloves. The match aggregate of 268 runs was the third lowest of the year for a completed match. Two championship career bowling milestones were passed during the match. When dismissing T A Brown in the Bedfordshire first innings, Wright took his four hundredth wicket for Buckinghamshire, whilst when dismissing Hobbs in the Buckinghamshire first innings, T A Brown took his two hundredth wicket for Bedfordshire.
