They had been set a victory target of 139 runs. The wickets victory margin was the equal second closest of the season. The eighth wicket fell at 124, but Rothery and Hartington added 18 runs to win the game. Durham had won the match between the two sides at South Shields in June. For the winners, Ringrose took 12 wickets in the match for 85 runs. There were 10 fours in Rothery’s 64 not out, which was the second highest score in the fourth innings during the season. In the Yorkshire first innings, Frank and Elms added 50 runs for the eighth wicket. For the losers, Kirtley’s 57 included 1 six and 9 fours and Bousfield’s 53 contained 7 fours. In the Durham second innings, Kirtley and Combey put on 97 runs for the eighth wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. When dismissing Elms in the Yorkshire second innings, Turnbull took his two hundredth wicket in championship matches.
