The match between the two sides at Jesmond in June had also been won by Durham. For the winners, Turnbull took 11 wickets in the match for 75 runs. There were 7 fours and 8 fours in Coulson’s two innings of 53 and 57, and 14 fours in Elliot’s 80. In the Durham second innings, Kirtley and Combey added 59 runs for the tenth wicket, which was the second known highest partnership for that wicket during the season. For the losers, Hansell’s 71 contained 12 fours, and with Stanger-Leathes, he put on 107 runs for the third wicket in the visitors’ first innings, which was the second highest known partnership for that wicket during the season. The 48 extras conceded by Durham in the Northumberland two innings were the most in a match during the season.
