The match at Northampton in June had been won by Northamptonshire. For the winners, there were 9 fours in Orr’s 68 and 4 fours in Peel’s 59. In the Bedfordshire first innings Orr and Rowe added 56 runs for the eighth wicket, which was the third highest partnership for that wicket during the season. For the losers, Kingston’s 53 contained 3 fours. In the Northamptonshire first innings Hawkins and Crosse added 52 runs for the ninth wicket. When Horton had scored 12 in the Northamptonshire first innings, he reached the career milestone of two thousand runs in championship matches, and when T A Brown had scored 8 in the Bedfordshire second innings, he reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches for the county. When catching S Brown in the Bedfordshire first innings, W H Kingston held his fiftieth catch in championship matches.
