The local press reported that the match started at 11.45 am, and the Surrey team, who had travelled down from London on the overnight mail train, “were handicapped by want of rest.” For the winners, Smith took 11 wickets in the match for 50 runs, including 7 for 29 in the second innings. The 3 stumpings made by Stedman in the Glamorgan second innings were the most in the season, a feat equalled by two others. The 5 stumpings made by Stedman in the match equalled the Championship record achieved twice before by C Page for Northumberland against Durham at Jesmond in 1901 and by J Poole for Staffordshire against Durham at Walsall in 1902. The 6 dismissals made by Stedman in the match were the most during the season, an achievement equalled by two others. Bancroft missed this match as he was summoned home because his wife had become ill. The gate receipts were over £29.
