The Northumberland declaration had set Yorkshire a victory target of 305 runs in just 2½ hours. For the winners, Elsey took 11 wickets in the match for 83 runs. Marshall’s 100 not out included 11 fours, 2 threes and 9 twos, an innings of 3 hours and 40 minutes. There were 5 fours in Stanger-Leathes’s 77 and 6 fours in R G E Mortimer’s 51. Marshall and Mortimer put on 116 runs for the fourth wicket in the home team’s second innings. For Yorkshire 2 nd XI, Frank’s 79 contained 15 fours and Newstead’s 64 11 fours. In the Yorkshire first innings, Myers and Frank added 87 runs for the seventh wicket, which was the third highest partnership for that wicket during the season. In the Northumberland second innings, Marshall’s leg was injured by a fast ball form Brown and Chambers acted as his runner. Higgins was also hurt keeping wicket and retired with Rothery taking over the gloves. Housley, the local professional, acted as substitute fielder for Marshall in the Yorkshire second innings and held 3 catches at slip.
