For the winners, E W Elliot scored 201, comprising 2 sixes, 22 fours, 3 threes and 10 twos, an innings of 3½ hours which was the second highest of the season. His 202 run aggregate in the match was the second equal highest of the season. H R Elliot’s 104 included 13 fours, 1 three and 5 twos scored in 2¾ hours. The brothers put on 240 runs for the Durham second wicket which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season and a new record for the Championship exceeding the 204 added by R H Mallett and E W Elliot for Durham against Cambridgeshire at West Hartlepool in 1897. The record was to last for less than seven weeks, as it was exceeded by B L Peel and G E Wharmby for Bedfordshire against Cambridgeshire at Dunstable in July. The Durham total of 452-8 wickets declared was the second highest of the year. For the losers, there were 12 fours in Marshall’s 89. The match aggregate of 861 runs was the highest of the season.
