The game between the two teams at Swindon in July had been drawn. The victory kept open Surrey 2 nd XI’s chance of sharing the Championship title, but this depended on Wiltshire gaining no points from their match with Monmouthshire over the next two days. For Surrey 2 nd XI, there was 1 five, 16 fours, and 6 threes in E Wiltshire’s 127 not out, scored in 2½ hours. He scored his century before lunch on the second day, both sides having completed an innings on the first day. Baker’s 96 contained 11 fours. In the Surrey second innings Baker and Wiltshire put on 120 runs for the first wicket, which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season. When Baker scored 14 in the Surrey first innings, he reached the career milestone of 2,000 runs in championship matches. Similarly, when Overton scored his single in the Wiltshire first innings, he reached the career milestone of 1,000 runs in championship matches.
