Glamorgan had won the game between the two teams at Cardiff earlier in the month. Williams performed the feat of scoring a hundred runs and taking 10 wickets in a match, a feat only previously achieved on four occasions, including once by Williams himself. On the basis used in the statistical survey, this was the best all-round performance of the season. Williams’s 100 contained 12 fours, 4 threes and 6 twos, and he took 13 wickets for 168 runs, including 8 for 110 in the Glamorgan first innings. For the losers, J H Brain’s 69 contained 9 fours. Lowe hurt his ankle and did not bowl in the Berkshire second innings. When he had scored 31 in the Glamorgan first innings, J H Brain reached the career milestone of 2,000 runs in championship matches.
