It was Dorset’s fourth consecutive defeat by an innings. For the winners, Baker scored 79 and Wiltshire 56. Bowley arrived late on the first day when the Surrey 2 nd XI score was 64 for nought. J F A Barnard had fielded as substitute. Crimmins badly damaged a finger when he caught Davis and retired from the match. The margin of the Surrey 2 nd XI victory was the second largest of the season. No evidence has yet been found to confirm that Weymouth College was the venue for this match. However, as all recent Dorset friendly matches played at Weymouth had been on this ground, it is likely to have been the location. When dismissing Budge in the Dorset second innings, Smith reached the career milestone of 100 wickets in championship matches.
