Surrey had also won when the teams met at The Oval in June. For the winners, Smith took 11 wickets in the match for 64 runs. There were 8 fours in Nice’s 56. In the Surrey first innings, Goatly and Nice put on 60 runs for the seventh wicket. For Glamorgan, J H Brain top-scored with 28. The 4 catches held by Strudwick in the Glamorgan first innings were the most by a wicket-keeper during the season, and equalled the Championship record achieved on 8 previous occasions, including once by Strudwick himself. The match was completed in drizzle on the morning of the second day in order to allow the Surrey team to catch an early train to Weymouth for their next match with Dorset.
