For the winners, Thompson took 13 wickets for 39 runs, including 7 for 13 in the Hertfordshire first innings. He also top-scored with 46 not out, an innings which contained 4 fours. The Hertfordshire first innings total of 31 was the lowest of the season. The match aggregate of 187 runs for a completed match was also the lowest of the season and a new record for the Championship, beating the 196 runs in the match between Northamptonshire and Berkshire at Northampton in 1900. Dumbleton split a finger while fielding in the Northamptonshire innings and batted as last man in the visiting team’s second innings. Horton acted as the substitute fielder. When dismissing Blow in the Hertfordshire first innings Thompson became the first bowler to reach the career milestone of 400 wickets in championship matches.
