The match was played in ‘cold wintry weather’. On the first day, there were several interruptions for rain and further play was prevented from 5.15 pm after the end of the Northamptonshire first innings. For the winners, Thompson took 10 wickets for 52 runs, and there were 6 fours in his 56. Moss’s 57 for Bedfordshire also contained 6 fours. Pollitt retired hurt in the Bedfordshire second innings with the score at 28, having twice been hit by balls from Dickens. He resumed his innings at 86 after the fall of the eighth wicket. When catching Moss in the Bedfordshire second innings, Horton reached the career milestone of 50 catches in championship matches.
