The game between the two teams at St Albans in July had been won by Buckinghamshire. For Hertfordshire, Butcher’s 131 contained 9 fours, 5 threes and 23 twos in an innings of 270 minutes, and he was last man out. A feature of the match was two first innings tenth wicket partnerships of over 50 runs. Butcher and Pank put on 56 runs for the tenth wicket for Hertfordshire, while de Paravicini and Page had a last wicket partnership of 55 for Buckinghamshire. Wright’s 80 overs and 42 maidens in the match were both the highest of the season. The 22 maidens he bowled in the second innings was the second highest total in an innings. The 67 overs bowled in the match by Page was the third most during the season.
