The match between the two teams at Darlington in July, which Northamptonshire had been just one wicket away from winning, had been drawn. For the winners, there were 15 fours, 4 threes and 11 twos in Turnbull’s 103, scored in 80 minutes, and 3 fours in Bousfield’s 54. In the first Durham innings, Bousfield and Turnbull put on 142 runs for the eighth wicket, which was a new Championship record, exceeding the 130 added by G J Thompson and F Warren for Northamptonshire against Durham at West Hartlepool in 1899. For Northamptonshire, Thompson took 13 wickets in the match for 131 runs. The start of the Northamptonshire second innings was delayed for over an hour by rain. The Durham first innings of 197 was the lowest total of the season to include a century.
