The game between the two sides at The Oval in June had been drawn. For the winners, Smith took 13 wickets in the match for 79 runs, which was statistically the second best match bowling performance of the season. It included 8 for 52 in the Glamorgan second innings. Creber took 11 wickets in the match for 125 runs for the losers. [An alternative version of this score, based on Surrey sources, has in the Glamorgan second innings J H Brain scoring 11, not 13, and Cording 2, not 0.] [Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; part fall of wickets] Sources: South Wales Daily News 17,19 August; South Wales Echo 16,17 August; Western Mail 17,19 August; Surrey Year Book 1901, p 131; Sporting Life 17,19 August; The Sportsman 17,19 August.
