For the winners, Taunton scored 110 not out, R W Awdry 94 with 9 fours, and Overton 53 not out. Snell and R W Awdry put on 113 runs for the fourth wicket, which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season, and Taunton and Overton an undefeated 118 for the tenth wicket, which was a new record for the Championship, exceeding the 87 achieved on two occasions in 1898, but which was subsequently exceeded by Overton and F Newman later in the month.. Taunton and Newman had added 63 runs for the ninth wicket. Smart took 10 wickets in the match for 79 runs. Rain stopped play 20 minutes early on the first day. Creese injured his back on the first day and was unable to bat in the Monmouthshire second innings. Silverlock was reported as suffering from a cold and lumbago.
