For the winners, Swalwell carried his bat in the first Yorkshire innings scoring 109 not out. It was the only instance during the season. His innings lasted 210 minutes and included 13 fours, 6 threes and 8 twos. Rudston’s 65 not out contained 8 fours and Ingleby’s 64 included 10 fours. In the first Yorkshire innings, Swalwell and Ingleby put on 154 runs for the fourth wicket, which was the highest for that wicket during the season. In the second innings, Rudston and Wainwright added an undefeated 59 runs for the seventh wicket. Ringrose took 10 wickets in the match for 118 runs. For Surrey 2 nd XI, Kersley performed the ‘hat-trick’ in the visitors’ first innings, his victims being Wainwright, Ringrose and Oyston. There were 12 fours in the debutant Gooder’s 78, and 1 five and 4 fours in Thompson’s 65. In the home team’s first innings, Gooder and Dolbey put on 60 runs for the ninth wicket. The 5 catches held by Higgins in the match equalled the Championship record for a wicket-keeper achieved on four previous occasions.
