The visitors thus completed the double over Hertfordshire, having won at Northampton when the two teams met in May. For the winners, East took 10 wickets in the match for 134 runs and Thompson 9 for 145. There were 14 fours in Papillon’s 92, 6 fours in Kingston’s 54, and 5 fours in Wetherall’s 53. In the Northamptonshire first innings, Papillon and Wetherall added 150 runs for the seventh wicket in 90 minutes. It was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. For Hertfordshire, there was 1 six, 17 fours, 2 threes and 3 twos in Hill’s 101, an innings of two hours. In the home team’s second innings, Hill and Butcher put on 105 runs for the seventh wicket, which was the third best for that wicket during the season. A feature of the Hertfordshire second innings was that the first five wickets all fell at the same total - 34. When dismissing Fastnedge in the Hertfordshire second innings, Thompson became the first bowler to reach the career milestone of three hundred wickets in championship matches. In the Northamptonshire first innings, when he had scored 5, East reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches.
