For the winners, Butler took 11 wickets in the match for 70 runs, including 7 for 49 in the Northumberland second innings. J F Whitwell had innings of 50 with 4 fours and 83, scored in two hours, with 1 six, 1 five and 9 fours. For the home team, Marshall took 15 wickets in the match for 123 runs, statistically the best bowling performance of the season in a match. His figures included 9 for 47 in the Durham first innings, which was statistically the second best innings bowling performance of the season. Greenway’s 26 included 1 six and 3 fours. Page, the Northumberland wicket-keeper and debutant, made 5 stumpings in the match, which was a new Championship record, exceeding the 4 stumpings made previously by C E Cobb of Buckinghamshire on 3 occasions, and by W H Brain of Glamorgan and C D Robinson of Buckinghamshire on one occasion each. Page’s 3 stumpings in the Durham second innings equalled the Championship record, which had been achieved on nine previous occasions. Thompson took 4 catches in the Durham first innings which equalled the Championship record achieved on seven previous occasions. There were no extras in either of the Northumberland innings. During the match two batsmen reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches – J F Whitwell when he had scored 20 in the Durham second innings, and Thompson when he had reached 7 in the Northumberland first innings.
