Notes: For the second season running, Norfolk failed to win a match, and remained at the bottom of the table, sharing it this time with Bedfordshire, Berkshire and, the new entrants, Devon. Fixtures with Durham and Northumberland were replaced by those with Buckinghamshire and Surrey 2 nd XI. Norfolk chose to play with just one professional, Shore, who had a poor season and left the Club. During the year, Page became the first Norfolk player to pass the career milestone of one thousand runs, and Blake of fifty wicket-keeping dismissals. The Norfolk Committee were determined to rectify their poor record through the engagement of new professionals – E Gibson and W Smith - who would have to serve a 24-month qualification period. Because of this, and of the need to cover the extra costs involved, Norfolk decided to withdraw from the Championship and only play a limited number of friendly matches over the next two years. They were to reappear in the competition in 1904.
