The Minor Counties Championship 1901

12 The Averages The averages are given in two forms – by county and by player. In both cases the players are listed in alphabetical order. 406 players took part in championship matches, compared with 355 in 1900. In the averages, the symbol * indicates a not out innings, + denotes a player making his debut for his team in 1901, of which there are 159, and a name in bold denotes a player making his final appearance for his team in a championship match in 1901, of which there are 124. The career records of all the 124 cricketers making their last appearance for their team in 1901 are also given, both in a separate section after the player alphabetical averages for the season and with the county averages. An addendum and corrigendum for the 1900 book is included after the Statistical Survey of the season. Minor Counties Representative Matches The focus of this book is the Championship, but 1901 saw the fifth representative match played by the Minor Counties since the formation of the Association. It was against the MCC who fielded a relatively weak team and were beaten by ten wickets in two days in a match for which three days had been allocated. The score of this match is included towards the end of the book. BIBLIOGRAPHY The main sources for the match scores are listed with the scores.
