Luncheon was taken on the second day before the final decision to abandon the match was made. It was the first time that the weather had prevented play in a championship match since the competition had been inaugurated in 1895. In 1896, there was no play in the Oxfordshire versus Cambridgeshire match after it had been scratched by Cambridgeshire.
