For the winners, G J Thompson took 15 wickets in the match for 153 runs, which was statistically the best match bowling performance of the season, with no other bowler taking more than 14 wickets. He also scored 72 runs with 7 fours in his only innings. It was one of the best all-round performances in a match during the season. Kingstonís 73 not out included 2 fives and 11 fours. It was the highest score by a batsman in the fourth innings of a match during the season. In the Northamptonshire first innings, Smith and Cox put on 53 runs for the ninth wicket. For Surrey 2 nd XI, Stonerís 65 included 12 fours and Penfoldís 53 contained 1five and 8 fours. The match was won when Smith scored a single and took the Northamptonshire second innings score to 137, but because the two scoreboards showed different totals, Barker bowled an extra ball which Kingston hit for four. The Northamptonshire section in Wisden gives the total as 137-3 wickets while the Surrey 2 nd XI section gives 141-3 wickets. The former version has been adopted here. In the Northamptonshire first innings, W H Kingston passed the career milestone of 1000 runs in championship matches. In the Surrey second innings when catching Clode, Smith made his fiftieth dismissal in championship matches.
