It was the first win of their tour. Three days were allocated to this fixture, but it was not first-class. The organisation of the Minor Counties XI lay in the hands of A J Darnell, the Northamptonshire Hon Secretary, and he was unable to get together a representative team. The team that played included seven Northamptonshire players, including two late replacements ñ Pool and Stops. The latter had played his one and only championship match for Northamptonshire back in 1895. For the winners, Olivierre scored 69 with 9 fours and Hinds 68 with 1 five and 6 fours. Burton took 9 wickets in the match for 66 runs. For the Minor Counties, there were 2 fours in Thompsonís 58. He also took 8 wickets in the match for 121 runs, including 7 for 84 in the West Indians first innings. Elliot and Thompson had previously played for the Minor Counties representative team; the remainder were debutants. By an unusual coincidence, the ënot outí batsmen on both the first and second day were the same players - Bowring and Hinds.
