The game between the two sides in June at Sunderland had also been drawn. Durham’s 425-6 declared was the highest team score of the season. Welford’s 153 was the highest individual innings of the year and included 1 six, 23 fours, 5 threes and 12 twos. There were 11 fours in Mallett’s 70, and 6 fours in both Wilson’s 69 and J F Whitwell’s 61 not out. In the Durham innings, Mallett and Welford put on 165 for the first wicket and J F Whitwell and Wilson 115 for the fifth. For Staffordshire, W Brown’s 90 not out contained 14 fours and Harrison’s 73 6 fours. In the Staffordshire second innings, King and W Brown added an undefeated 134 for the third wicket. The match aggregate of 810 runs was the highest of the season. In all, 18 players bowled in this game, nine from each side.
