This was one of the two opening matches of the Championship, though unlike Durham, Lincolnshire did not ‘qualify’ for the final table, arranging home and away games with only Durham and Norfolk. Over 2,000 spectators were estimated to have attended on the first day. W F Whitwell took 10 wickets for 37 runs in the match, including 8 for 18 in the Lincolnshire second innings. For the visitors, Broadbent took 7 for 41 in the Durham first innings. The run aggregate of 304 was the third lowest of the season for a completed match.
