Minor Counties Championship 1895
8 The details of the first-cass scores for 1895 have been readily available to statisticians for well over 100 years, and have been subject to much detailed scrutiny over that time. By contrast, the scores published here are being made available for the first time in a single volume. It would be surprising if there are no errors in this book, even though every effort has been made to prevent them. The ACS is keen to publish additions, amendments and corrections to this booklet in subsequent issues or in The Cricket Statistician . In the match scores, the symbol * indicates captain and + wicket-keeper. The Averages The averages are given in two forms – by county and by player. In both cases, the averages are given in alphabetical order. The averages are calculated for the championship matches. This means that they include not only the seven teams that qualified for the championship, but also the seven teams that did not but whose matches counted as championship games for their opponents. In the averages the symbol * indicates not out innings and + that 1895 was the only season that the player appeared in a championship match for that team. The latter enables readers to identify the career record of the players who only played one season for that team. Photograph It had been our intention to include a team photograph for each of the three winning teams. However, despite extensive searches, a photograph has only been found for the Worcestershire team, courtesy of the County Club. It is reproduced here even though unfortunately some of the players cannot be identified. If any readers can help fill the gaps or are aware of photographs for winning teams in future years, they are asked to get in touch with the editor.
