The tombstone, erected by Judy and her husband in 2003, reads simply: JOHN HERBERT KING 1871 – 1946 LEICESTERSHIRE AND ENGLAND CRICKETER AND HIS BROTHER JAMES KING 1869 – 1948 The Simonidean restraint of the inscription is reminiscent of that of the Grace Gates at Lord’s, scene of King’s most famous innings. 118 Retirement
