But Richard’s year had a happier ending. On 13 December, at the Annual General Meeting of the Notts County Club, it was announced that ‘a complimentary benefit would be given to Mr. Richard Daft’ under the management of the Committee who ‘will direct the form of the testimonial to be raised by such benefit match.’ Gentlemen and Players 71 Nottinghamshire’s side in 1875, acclaimed as champion county by the contemporary press.
