Lives in Cricket No 7 - Richard Daft
Richard’s record for that season shows what a small amount of first-class cricket he was playing. The same was not true of W.G., although Gloucestershire’s county matches were limited to six. In his eight first-class matches, Richard’s figures were 416 runs at 41.60, while those of W.G., in twenty matches, showed 1,805 runs, including six centuries, at an average of 72.20. The Great Man, who was 25 years old by the end of the season, also captured 75 wickets. He also played pretty well a full season for the United South Eleven in their matches against odds. The consensus was that the title of champion county for 1873 was shared between Gloucestershire and Notts. 62 More of the County Championship
