Lives in Cricket No 6 - Bill Copson
Cross at Morton, the parish church, by the Rector, Rev W.L.Latham. His bride was Emily Titterton, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Titterton of The Broadleys, Clay Cross. She worked for the Globe Tea Company in its general provisions store in Clay Cross – expertise which enabled her later to run her own shop: she helped run the local Girls’ Friendly Society and was involved with amateur dramatics. The occasion was full of cricket connections. 10 Bill was ‘supported’ by his youngest brother Clarence, who played League cricket in the Derbyshire League. The bride’s father was Charles Titterton, the scorer for the Clay Cross Park Club which was where Emily and Bill met. On their marriage, the couple moved to a house in Hepthorne Lane, North Wingfield, a village about five miles north of Stonebroom. Starting in First-Class Cricket 23 Bill and Emily Copson at the seaside, 1935 10 The News Chronicle Annual reported of Copson in the early thirties that ‘the vicar of his parish had brought him to the notice of the Peak county.’
