It is possible that the pot of gold at Leeds also petered out and Johnny was certainly offered a relatively lucrative opportunity at Wakefield in the Central Yorkshire League (another section of the Yorkshire Council as it then was). All the time Johnny was at Leeds on a Saturday he was playing for Lincolnshire in the Minor Counties Championship during the week – and there will be more about this. Wonders at Wakefield 1964-66 The most concentrated success in Johnny’s long career which had never actually flagged came in the period 1964 to 1966 when Johnny played for Wakefield CC and continued his success at Lincolnshire. The Wakefield Express announced on April 18, 1964 as the new season got under way that Johnny; Vic Wilson, who had just retired after success as Yorkshire’s captain; Ronnie Wood, and wicketkeeper Peter White (both eminent Wakefield at College Grove in 1964.
