Formation of Ealing Cricket Club There are reports of some cricket in Ealing having taken place from 1774 according to The Ealing Book by Peter Hounsell in 2005, but it was the mid-19th century before seriously organised cricket was arranged leading not least to the opening of The Cricketer public house in Ealing in the 1860s. Though naturally pre-occupied by parish duties, Edmund was soon exploring the possibilities of a new cricket ground and club for central Ealing and he found a kindred spirit in Hilliard.
