Lives in Cricket No 49 - Enid Bakewell
112 over-55s. She still keeps an eye on Colin. He doesn’t want a divorce and has had a hip replacement and ‘needs help with jigsaws as his eyesight is getting worse’. Colin will grow seeds at home to grow on in Robert’s allotment, but it is Enid who does the digging. Late in 2016 Enid went to a memorial service at Newstead for miners who had lost their lives at work. There was a brass band and a choir sang the Internationale. And in 2017 the University of Greenwich awarded her a degree for the work she did in Dartford all those years ago. Enid today still digs Robert’s allotment, looks after her grandson, and still plays cricket and bowls. Will she manage to play until she’s 80? You wouldn’t bet against it. Recognition Enid down south. Back at Dartford in 2017, now part of the University of Greenwich.
