Lives in Cricket No 48 - Maurice Leyland

Harry, the son of Ted’s sister Emma and her husband TomWhite, who was sometimes known by his full double-barrelled handle of White-Pantry. Harry was born the same year as Maurice and though never a Leyland he chose to adopt the family name when he became a professional singer with the Carl Rosa Company in Bradford. He later became a member of the world famous D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and was known all his professional life as Leyland White. In view of the two men’s commitments their paths did not often cross. But, if Maurice did go to see his cousin in a show the newspaper photographers were invariably there to record the occasion and the cuttings duly found their way into the family scrapbook.
