behaviour and whatever problems there may have been in her upbringing she seemed determined to make sure they were not repeated in the Leyland household - even if various members were to spend much of their lives living miles apart from each other. Maurice, who married soon after his parents moved to Birmingham, remained in Harrogate but 19-year-old Cora did go with them. Cora was an outstanding cricketer herself, playing for Bilton Ladies with her cousin Edith, and only just missed out on a trip to Australia with the England Ladies team. She played very little after moving to the Midlands where, initially, she was a big help to her dad on the ground at Edgbaston before pursuing her own career as a chiropodist.
