Reading that piece again, it appears to be as much prophetical as poetical in parts and when those players emerging from the pavilion finally took their guard for the first ball of the 1946 summer Maurice the entertainer was ready and waiting for one last season at the ‘City of Varieties’ that was Yorkshire cricket.
