82 Interlude – Team photographs As for the later 1930s team, which has one difference – Norman Yardley has joined, to take a central place between Sellers and Leyland – note the slight space between Sellers’ and Yardley’s arms. Which of the two men has made that gap? Does it speak of an emotional distance, a wariness by the captain towards the man already likely to take over from him? Or was Sellers giving Yardley space to grow?
