ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mark Rowe has worked as a journalist since he left the University of Bristol in 1989 with a first-class degree in history. He lived in York from 1993 to 1995. He is the author of The Victory Tests: England v Australia 1945 (2010) and is the editor of the Lives in Cricket series. One weekday evening in June 2016 he played his first game of cricket for 20 years. In 2016 the ACS published his history of English cricket since 1840, The Summer Field .
