Middlesex, later he would become better known as an umpire determined to help rid the game of several throwers playing at the time. He called a number of bowlers for throwing, and as a result he finished several careers. Two of the cricketers he helped finish as bowlers were CB Fry and Ted Tyler. In 1900 Phillips wrote to the MCC asking for nine bowlers to be banned. He would later move to Canada and became wealthy as a mining engineer; we will hear more of Phillips later. Getting back to the match, the MCC fared worse in their second innings making only 60 and Somerset easily knocked off the runs losing only two wickets.
