Lives in Cricket No 40 - Edwin Smith
85 Summer of drama for four months but thankfully he was fit for the start of the 1967 cricket season. He was aided in his rehabilitation by Chesterfield Football Club, where he went to run around the pitch as his ankle improved. He was also grateful for the assistance of the club physio, Olly Thomson, who worked on his ankle ‘as he would have done for one of his footballers’, according to Edwin. As a consequence, Edwin moved to a new position in the Coal Board offices in Mansfield Woodhouse, a job he held for the next two winters. Edwin arrives at Scarborough on another occasion, for a match between Yorkshire and the MCC in 1956.
